在《當時》這件作品,我自水面之下拍攝石頭不斷地被扔進水中,而水花與氣泡興滅的景象。空間裡,閃動著電視影像所泛出的藍色色光,伴隨石塊撞擊水體時所產生的黏糊聲響,以及如對白般浮現於畫面的文字,是我自網路上蒐集到的「安全提示問題」。它們的出現,大多是在遺失密碼時,或作為身份驗證的關口,主要以個人的生命經驗為題材進行設計。回憶當前,人們常常認為自己能夠清晰地記得一切,但當這些記憶接受檢驗時,往往會發現什麼也想不起來。我以此情境作為前提,並以電視顯示器為媒介,同時將記憶視為觸媒(catalyst)——一種在視覺制域中互動和交流的手段。試著藉反覆提問的方式,在自我觀照中實現「降速」的語境;透過量度自身與回憶的間距,觀者得以重新直面影像中輪廓模糊的他者——也就是其記憶本身。
In this pieceAt that time., I am submerged while filming the scene of a rock beingrepeatedly thrown into the water to create dissipating splashes and bubbles. Inthe space, images from the television screen flash and spread, accompanied bythe glutinous noises generated when the rock pieceshit the water body. Onscreen, as well, is text that appears like dialogue, inspired by “security questions”that I collected from the internet. They largely appear when a password is lost, oras a gateway for identity verification, and is designed aroundpersonal livedexperience. When recollecting, we usually assume clarity of our own memory.Yet, when these memories are tested, we often find that we cannot rememberanything. This is my premise, with the television display as my medium, to usethe concept of memory as catalyst—a method to create interaction and exchangewithin the imaging regime. I attempt through this method of repeated questioningand self-examination to materialise my own context of “deceleration.” Inmeasuring the space between memoryand the self, the audience may onceagain come face to face with the blurry silhouette of the other—in other words,the shape of memory.
